4 Influential Bloggers to reach out to promote a business in Poland

If you’re seeking to market a product or promote a business in Poland, you don’t have to do that much searching online to find a list of top Poland blogs and websites.

However, many of these blogs and websites are either no longer in operation or their founders no longer churn out material like they used to. 

Therefore, I’ve done a bit of digging to see which blogs and sites post engaging content on a regular basis. Here are my top four nominations:

1. Northern Irishman in Poland – Jonny Blair

Jonny Blair is a Northern Irish travel writer living in Poland.

Born in Newtownards, Northern Ireland, in 1980, Jonny’s first visit to Poland was in March 2005. He visited the country again in 2007. Jonny had already visited around 30 countries by 2007, including Canada and China. Fast forward to 2024. He’s now been to 229 independent nation states, dependencies, regions and disputed territories in the world. Incredible.

In 2015, Jonny found himself back in Poland, this time in Poznań. Even though wanderlust would go on to get the better of Jonny again, something hit him deep inside while in Poznań. He began to sense that Poland could be his place. Eventually, life brought Jonny to Gdańsk in July 2016. The plan was to stay a few weeks. However, he decided to finally settle down in the city of Freedom and Solidarity.

Jonny Blair is an established writer. In addition to his Poland-based website, Northern Irishman in Poland, Jonny also keeps a global travel blog – Don’t Stop Living. He’s also the author of several books which detail his travels around the world.

Jonny currently lives in Warsaw.

Jonny’s website, Northern Irishman in Poland, has been running since December 2016. 

In some of his earliest posts, Jonny’s fascination with off-the-beaten-path destinations shone through. Indeed, he reflected on trips to some rather obscure spots in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, such as Rywałd and Kokoszkowy. Jonny’s never been one to shy away from mixing with the locals. Hence, he took it upon himself to use Couchsurfing to get to know local people in Pomerania.

The ‘Regular Features’ section on Northern Irishman in Poland is particularly intriguing. From Magiczne Miasta (“Magical Places” – destination reviews) to Smaczne Środy (“Tasty Wednesdays” – typical Polish foods and restaurant reviews) and Dziwaczne Odkrycia (“Strange Discoveries” – the peculiar aspects of Polish culture) to Dlaczego Kochamy Polskę (“Why we love Poland” – Interviews with foreigners living in Poland), Jonny has covered all the bases when it comes to Polish culture. Finally, Jonny’s love of football stands out on his website.

2. Finding Poland – Steve Krajewski

Steve Krajewski is a Brit with Polish descent and a true writer at heart.

Steve’s school days were typified by bewildered English teachers who marvelled at his creative writing skills and constant first-place finishes in spelling tests. Unfortunately, his struggles with science, art, woodwork or basically anything practical knocked Steve’s ego and self-confidence. He certainly was not a budding Albert Einstein or Isaac Newton. 

Still, Steve had words and sentences. Before he turned his attention to training to become a history teacher, and then an English teacher after a chance meeting with a Polish guy at university, all he ever wanted to be throughout childhood was a newspaper journalist.  

With a BA in History and MA in English Language Teaching, Steve has been teaching English since 2006. He’s taught in Kraków, Dębica, Płock, Łódź and Gdańsk. 

It’s remarkable how similar Jonny Blair’s story is to Steve’s. After all, they both visited Poland for the first time in 2005. Secondly, the setting up of their Poland-based websites coincided with both Jonny’s and Steve’s moves to Gdańsk, albeit at different times. After getting his Polish citizenship confirmed in 2018, Steve moved to Gdańsk with his wife in February 2020.  

The Essence of Finding Poland

The sheer range of content on Finding Poland is astounding. From up-to-date information for foreigners related to obtaining residence permits and renting apartments, to interviews with Polish entrepreneurs, Steve’s covered all the bases. He’s particularly proud of the site’s Polish citizenship page due to the unique insight provided by a Polish citizenship specialist, Michał Petrus, from Kraków. 

As a travel writer, Steve’s main focus is to impart his own experience rather than simply relay historical facts or copy and paste from Wikipedia. We see this value shine through in his many destination reviews.

How slow progress turned into incredible progress

At a similar time to the founding of his language learning and teaching blog, English Coach Online, Steve slowly but surely began to add posts to Finding Poland. Some of his earliest posts included destination reviews of Sopot and Gdynia Orłowo. 

Steve quickly became a scholar of SEO. With the passing of time, he realised that he would have to write unique long-form content in order to best position his posts in search engine results. The tactic clearly bore fruit as his best performing posts, such as those related to public transport in Gdańsk and ‘What is cheap in Poland?’, are indeed long-form and incredibly informative. Not only that, they’re all up-to-date. Steve partly attributes the monumental rise in page views on Finding Poland between 2023 and mid-2024 to the ‘Last updated’ info that’s displayed at the top of each post. Google tends to show the ‘Last updated’ dates for Steve’s posts within search results snippets, as you can see below: 

It took Steven and Finding Poland four-and-a-half years to reach 10,000 pageviews a month. That was in April 2024. Fast forward to July 2024 when Finding Poland amassed around 24,000 pageviews. 

Finding Poland has a loyal group of readers, predominantly from Poland, the USA, the UK and Germany.

3. Expats Poland – Phil Forbes

Expats Poland is the creation of Phil Forbes, an Australian who’s been living in Warsaw since 2016.

Browsing Expats Poland, it’s clear to me that Phil Forbes has done everything to honour the website’s tagline ‘Polish history & culture through the eyes of expats’.

Phil offers invaluable insights into Polish culture, society, and integration through eminently articulate and readable posts, many of which draw on the writer’s own experience immersing himself in the Polish way of life.

There are several categories on the website, two of which are exceptionally well-developed in terms of content. Those categories are ‘Polish culture’ and ‘For foreigners’. In the ‘Polish culture’ section, Phil has written some riveting posts on topics as varied as iconic Polish candy and the Role of the Polish President. When it comes to the ‘For foreigners’ page, Phil has willingly shared, for example, his experiences obtaining a temporary residence permit in Poland and the best barbershops in Warsaw. 

Poland’s charm swept me off my feet, from the ankle-breaking cobblestone streets to the well-preserved history etched into the architecture, which is why this blog exists (Phil Forbes)

Phil’s Skills and Professional Background 

One of the reasons I have shortlisted Expats Poland as a viable solution to promote a business in Poland is because Phil Forbes has navigated the  business world himself.

4. Kids in the City – Magda Piasecka

Founded by Magda Piasecka, Kids in the City is the go-to website for international and Polish families living in Poland and visiting Poland. 

Kids in the City – An Overview

On January 1, 2017, Magda published her first post on Kids in the City. It was a personalised account of her visit to the Fryderyk Chopin Museum in Warsaw. The post represents the true essence of Magda’s website – a myriad of ideas and tips on things to do with kids in Poland, with a particular emphasis on Warsaw

From The Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art to The University of Warsaw Botanic Garden, the reviews of places to visit things for families to do in Warsaw kept coming thick and fast as the years rolled by.

In more recent posts, however, Magda has, to some degree, moved away from reviews of places to visit in Warsaw to focus on other destinations in Poland and even non-travel related topics, such as how to cope with air pollution in Poland

Caring for kids’ education and well-being

Admirably, Magda has produced separate pages with profiles of the following: 

  • International Schools in Warsaw;
  • Summer camps in Warsaw and Poland;
  • After-school, preschool & baby external activities and classes in Warsaw; 
  • Birthday party venues for kids in Warsaw. 

Magda’s site may be quite nichey. However, it is a true leader in the field of family life in Poland. I believe this would be of interest to many brands seeking to promote a business in Poland.

From time to time, Magda allows guest authors to write posts for Kids in the City. This is certainly another avenue worth exploring for business leaders and entrepreneurs out there.

Closing Remarks

I genuinely believe that the four founders of the websites I’ve reviewed above are all true professionals when it comes to cooperating with other brands and businesses. They’re all passionate, eloquent and experienced writers who don’t shy away from writing SEO-friendly long-form content.

So you want to promote a business in Poland? You’ve got Jonny who can represent your business in a witty yet convincing light.
